- The average life span of a domestic cat is 14 years. The worlds oldest cat, Creme Puff reached the age of 38 (168 cat years!)
- On average, cats spend 2/3 of every day sleeping. That means a nine-year-old cat has been awake for only three years of its life!
- Felicette (“Astrocat”) was the first cat sent into space. In 1963, France launched the cat 97 miles high on a fifteen minute space trip. Felicette returned safely after the capsule parachuted back to Earth.
- Cats are extremely agile and jump up to five times their own height in a single bound. Some cats have survived falls of over 20 metres!
- The Persian is the most popular purebred cat kept in the UK, with the Siamese cat coming in a close second. Moggies and mixed breed cats are the most popular and common cats in the UK overall.
- Cats are considered to favour a right or left front paw, just as humans are usually left or right handed. Around 90% of female cats are thought to be right-pawed, while a slightly higher proportion of males are left-pawed.
